Until now, data on organic yields and their influencing factors have rarely been collected systematically. OrganicYieldsUP addresses this by creating a coordinated, comparable, and practical way to collect and organise this crucial information.
During the first phase of the project, partners from various countries and fields joined forces to design a flexible database structure. It can accommodate:
Multiple data sources, including experimental stations, on-farm trials, monitoring programmes, and published research
Different levels of detail, from individual plots to whole-farm observations
Various experimental setups
Key contextual factors such as soil type, climate, and management history
The database is being co-created through an iterative, collaborative process, ensuring it is both scientifically sound and grounded in real-world farming practices.
During the first phase of the project, partners from various countries and fields joined forces to design a flexible database structure. It can accommodate:
A minimum dataset to enable meaningful comparisons
Standardised lookup tables based on global references (AGROVOC, ICASA, EPPO), adapted for organic farming
Clear guidance to ensure consistent data entry across partners
Though still under development, this database lays the groundwork for detailed analysis. It will allow us to explore patterns, test hypotheses, and deepen our understanding of what shapes organic yields.
